Over the past two years we have developed a sophisticated Google Analytics plugin with many useful features. Last week I discussed one of our favorite features, tracking clicks to external websites with Google Analytics. Another feature which is often used, is tracking downloads of different types of documents with Google Analytics.

We wanted to make sure the feature works straight out of the box, without any hasstles setting it up. Like all of our plugin features, we make sure that advanced users and beginners are all able to understand how our plugin works and get excellent use of the plugin.

Over the past few years we have had many requests from Joomla community members for our Google Analytics plugin. None of them were more popular than tracking clicks to other websites, also called external clicks. That's why, during the first release of our Google Analytics PRO plugin for Joomla we made it our top priority to implement this functionality.

The functionality has been used by most of our plugin downloaders. That's why we would like to share some more insight into how the functionality works and where you can find the data in Google Analytics.

Google Analytics has proven to be a very powerful tool to get insights about how your website performs. With just a basic Google Analytics implementation we can learn how often are website is visited, which pages are seen very often and which traffic sources send us most of our website visitors. Unfortunately, none of this tells us what different type of users are doing what on our website.

Google just announced a brand new product called Google Tagmanager.

Google Tag Manager allows you to conveniently manage tags (such as tracking and marketing optimization JavaScript tags) on your site. You can add and update AdWords, Google Analytics, Floodlight and non-Google tags from the Google Tag Manager user interface instead of editing site code. This reduces errors, frees you from having to involve a webmaster, and allows you to quickly deploy tags on your site.
